Founded in 2024, our team began with a bold vision — to bring Singapore into the world of human-powered submarine innovation. What started as a small group of passionate engineers has since evolved into MAKO, a name inspired by the shark that embodies speed, precision, and relentless determination.
HOW WE STARTED...
MAKO was founded from a shared passion to compete in the 2024 European International Submarine Races (EISR). What began as a small group of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) students with no prior experience or resources quickly grew into a team driven by ambition and innovation. Under the leadership of former captain Ryan Tan, the team turned a daring idea into a fully functional human-powered submarine through relentless determination, creativity, and teamwork. Against veteran teams with decades of experience, their debut performance earned an impressive 4th place finish, marking the beginning of MAKO’s legacy.
